Colorado National Monument Comments

The Future of The Colorado National Monument

Colorado National Monument Listening Session with Cong. Scott Tipton and Sen. Mark Udall on May 17 in Grand Junction. Details HERE.

The Colorado National Monument is one of Colorado’s most scenic natural wonders and plays an important role in the lives of all who are blessed to live in the region.  It’s because of this that Congressman Scott Tipton and Senator Mark Udall have engaged in a thoughtful community-driven process to help determine what the best options might be to best ensure future generations have access to all the Monument has to offer and that the local economy is able to thrive and prosper.

As part of this process, Tipton and Udall have received recommendations from a community working group comprised of five esteemed leaders from Mesa County who have spent months evaluating and crafting proposals regarding a possible national park designation for the Colorado National Monument.  The group agreed that their proposals should be made available for public review.

To help determine what the next steps will be, Tipton and Udall have released a summary of the working group’s recommendations and invite you to please provide your input, questions and ideas on what you believe is best for the community and the Colorado National Monument.

A message from Scott Tipton:

When it comes to our public lands, the Monument included, I believe that any possible change in designation or management should be done through a bottom-up process, driven by community support and broad consensus. To be clear, I have not drafted a bill in the House of Representatives to change the designation of the Colorado National Monument. Any potential legislation to change that status of the Monument first must be community-driven and locally supported. I look forward to the community’s comments and ideas that will come from this public comment period as we weigh all of the options for the Colorado National Monument, and will take your comments into careful consideration. Thank you for taking the time to send us your comments.

-Scott
