"If Iran, a country with known terrorist ties, were to obtain nuclear weapons, it would have a destabilizing effect on the entire region and pose a severe threat to our national security," Tipton said, through a spokesman, Tuesday. "It is preferential that preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons be done through diplomatic channels, but we can't take any options off the table."

Scott Tipton is to be thanked, because if the bill with his amendment fails, it might increase pressure on the Colorado River if San Joaquin Valley farmers were forced to look elsewhere for supplies. Should they put a call on Colorado River water, that could imperil deliveries of West Slope water to the Arkansas Valley through the Fryingpan-Arkansas Project.

“While I recognize that guided climbing comprises a relatively small percentage of total climbing activity in the Black Canyon, I am concerned that, if adopted, the proposal will reduce opportunities for safe, facilitated wilderness recreation and education...,” Tipton wrote in a letter addressed to Jarvis and Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar dated Feb. 27.

According to the National Hydropower Association, hydropower is the cleanest and most cost-effective way to deliver electricity. In Colorado, 31 percent of renewable energy is hydropower. The Congressional Budget Office estimates the bill would generate $5 million in federal revenue over 10 years.

Some were local Republicans on hand to cheer for him, some were local Democratic labor activists to challenge him.
