Tipton Statement on Protests Over Unjust Death of George Floyd

June 1, 2020
Press Release

WASHINGTON—Congressman Scott Tipton (CO-03) provided the following statement regarding the ongoing protests in Colorado’s Third District and across the country over the unjust death of George Floyd:

“I join the country in disgust, anger, and sadness after seeing what happened to George Floyd. We all want to see justice for George Floyd and his family, and that is underway. It is critically important that all Americans regardless of color, creed or background feel safe in every community and are treated fairly under the law. It is important to emphasize that the vast majority of law enforcement officers carry out their duties to serve and protect honorably and selflessly. These officers care deeply about all human life and their communities, and this is a great time of sadness and frustration for them as well. Most of the people who are protesting, including those in the Third District, are doing so peacefully and their message is being heard. There are some groups and individuals, however, who latch onto peaceful protests to spread fear, division and destruction. In many places they are looting, destroying and further hurting their communities. There is no place for the violence perpetrated on George Floyd and too many others, or the violent riots we are seeing in communities across the country, in today’s United States of America.”
